Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Wednesday 14th March 2012
Acclaimed natural history filmmaker and photographer, Rod Morris, will take us on a photographic journey of the incredible landscapes and creatures residing on the Denniston Plateau.
The plants and animal (many of them poorly known or scientifically undescribed), are at risk from an open-cast mining proposal put forward by Australian mining company Bathurst Resources.
Rod has been in film making and wildlife photography for many years, as well as writing and lecturing about New Zealand wildlife. After visiting NZ's largest open-cast coal mine near Denniston 18 months ago, he became very troubled at the ecological destruction being undertaken on a massive scale, in what is one of NZ's most important areas for biodiversity,
Forest and Bird Society is conducting a BioBlitz on the Denniston Plateau from Friday March 2 to Sunday March 4 and it is hoped that Rod will be able to present some of the results of these surveys at the meeting
