Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Monday 23rd April 2012
It is the fourth expo of its type that has been held in Nelson Tasman and is part of local and central government’s commitment to positive aging.
The aim is to include as many community groups and local and central government agencies as possible so that people can find out what is on offer – from recreation, sport, health and social activities, to services and entitlements. With over 60 stalls the Expo will be showcasing a diverse range of groups, products and services – from advice and assistance in health and social services to hobby and recreational options.
Spokesman Mike Tasman-Jones says that it’s often difficult for individuals to make that first point of contact or know who to contact, the expo provides the opportunity to do this face-to-face.
This year the Expo will include CarFit which offers older drivers a free check on how well they personally ‘fit’ their vehicle. CarFit check takes about 20 minutes and involves trained community volunteer technicians and health professionals working with each participant to ensure they ‘fit’ their vehicle properly for maximum comfort and safety. Assessments will be done on the spot but to book a guaranteed assessment drivers should phone Margaret on 546 0390 and arrange a time.
