Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Saturday 18th August–Sunday 14th October 2012
Enclave is a solo exhibition by Pakeha Maori artist, Tim Wraight. The exhibition describes an alternative reality for his community at Otuwhero/Marahau; the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park. This is an idyllic location and idealist community; a place where hard core environmentalist and free man ideologies are mixed with Eastern religions, new age spiritualism and multicultural influences.
This exhibition is a study of Otuwhero as an enclave; a distinct community group located within a larger area. Wraight goes further, however, and imagines Otuwhero as a hermetically sealed environment where extremist ideologies are allowed to flourish unimpeded.
