New Zealand's premiere Irish music event, the Ceol Aneas Irish music Festival is a holiday weekend of ceol agus craic (music & laughter). One of Australasia's major Irish music events, Ceol Aneas (ke-ol an-ass) attracts musicians and those who love Irish music from around New Zealand and overseas.
Festival guests are from Ireland/USA Kevin Crawford, Colin Farrell, Patrick Doocey, Daire Mulhern, from Australia Ben Stephenson, Ado Barker, Luke Plumb and Nelson's Brendyn Montgomery.
The Festival Concert 7pm Sunday at The Theatre Royal features our world class guests with mighty music and merriment.
The Ceili Dance with called dances and live musicians 6pm Saturday at St John's Hall, is fun for all ages.
A singing session, focusing on Irish song is on at Yaza Cafe Saturday from 4 - 6 pm. Free and all welcome.
The sound of traditional Irish music will be heard from 8.30 pm till late at The Free House and East Street Cafe and possibly earlier. The sessions provide a lively atmosphere continuing on into the small hours. Free to enter.
Ceol Aneas is Irish Gaelic for Music of the South.
