Matariki at Nelson Public Libraries

Monday 12th-Friday 30th June 2017

Matariki is the Māori name for the star cluster known as the Pleiades and its appearance in the sky, which occurs this year on June 25, signals the beginning of the Māori New Year.
Nelson Public Libraries are celebrating Matariki with a series of events:
* 12-30 June - Elma Turner Library seed, seedling and plant swap
* 21 June, 11.30-1 - Cooking demonstration. From the ocean to the land with Wayne DeuxBerry
* 21 June, 1-2: Kawakawa - Preparation and use
* 29 June, 12.30-1.30 - Matariki talk - a presentation on the origins and star names and legends
Dates to be confirmed:
* harakeke weaving
* Kapa Haka performances

Seed Library - drop in advice sessions on seed collection and storage: June 11 (2.30-3.30), June 13 (1.30-2.30), June 22 (9.30-10.30). Followed by a seed workshop, July 9, 2pm.
