Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Saturday 5th May 2018
Once, Kauri Jack travelled all over.
Surviving a near deadly accident in the kauri-bush, he dreams of folk he's met along the way. These characters come alive to sing & celebrate the lore of Aotearoa/New Zealand. But for Jack, it's a beautiful haunting ~ a quest for healing, sanctuary, home.
John Crick turns up like the Ancient Mariner, with amazing true tales of New Zealand. Characters come alive, claim the space, own their stories and songs. Some tough themes are touched on, like musket, and land wars. But always The Folk, under test, doing their best, men and women, heroes and journeys, Aotearoa.
The yarns are told like all's happening now, in lively song-poetry style, seeking the essence: the tension, endurance, or to bear witness that such things were. There's 23 yarns ~ in a wondrous strange celebration of life in our land.
John delivers his tales in a character-driven, sparse, song-poetry style, (as used in two earlier heritage shows at Nelson Fringe). Here, in Jack's haunting, real NZ folk will stand and deliver, celebrate our land in new-shaped story and song.
