Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Wednesday 24th January 2018
Richter City Rebels are New Zealand's first and finest Second Line brass band. Made up of top calibre Wellington musicians, the Rebels bring the warm, infectious sound and magnetic culture of New Orleans to clubs, theatres and festivals all over the country.
The Richter City Rebels' music is heavy and soulful. Blending RnB, soul, hip-hop, jazz and funk, it grooves deeply and pulsates with pounding bass and searing brass. Catchy vocals and chants draw the crowd into the party and the rolling, infectious sound is punctuated by the fierce crack of drums and percussion. The music has the soul and charisma of James Brown, mixed with the effortless swagger of golden age hip-hop. When it hits you, you can't help but dance and feel good!
Their first live album Rebels Take Havana was released in 2012, a year after their inception. This was followed by a much-anticipated studio recording We Do It Like That. 2016 saw the release of a second live album, Live At Tora from their headlining performance at Tora Tora Tora Festival.
They are back with a brand-spanking new studio album and they're looking forward to sharing their vibrant and energetic show with the Fairfield crowd. This show is one not to be missed and fun for the whole family!
