Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Saturday 26th May 2018
After years of absence, the Nelson Civic Choir is thrilled to perform these concerts, together with orchestra and the Chroma Chamber Choir, in the new venue.
This well-loved oratorio, first performed in Dublin in 1742, has remained popular throughout the world. The Hallelujah Chorus is traditionally performed throughout the Christian world as part of the Easter or Christmas celebration. According to legend, when King George II first heard the Hallelujah chorus during a performance of Handel’s Messiah in London, he stood in reverence, which brought the rest of the audience to their feet.
There will be two performances of Messiah, on the 25th and 26th of May, presented by 150 singers and musicians from the Top of the South, with distinguished vocal soloists and instrumentalists from around New Zealand, under the baton of Pete Rainey.
Seating in the new Nelson School of Music Auditorium is strictly limited, so book early to secure a good seat to enjoy this wonderful concert!
