Justly proclaimed ‘ones to watch’, Andrey Gugnin and Ioana Cristina Goicea took out the 2016 Sydney International Piano Competition and the 2017 Michael Hill International Violin Competition respectively. Together, this unbeatable duo will perform two programmes of lush Romantic and contemporary music.
Schubert’s experimental Rondo Brilliant in B Minor might have caused his publishers to pause, but is now enjoyed as an exhilarating duet of unbridled virtuosic flair. The Sonata No. 3 in D Minor, by Brahms is filled with stormy passions and is a perfect counterpoint to the Romanian folk songs of Enescu’s dreamy and seductive Sonata No. 3. Stravinsky’s Suite Italienne, originally composed for the Ballets Russes, is a sparkling re-framing of music by the Italian Baroque master Pergolesi.
With more musical gems by Strauss, Debussy and New Zealand’s own Karlo Margetić, this winning combination promise a spellbinding evening of music making.
“Ioana Cristina Goicea is quickly building an international reputation as one of the new rising stars of the international concert stage – praised for her maturity, conviction and profound musicality.” – The Violin Channel
