New Zealand's premiere Irish music event, Ceol Aneas (ke-ol an-ass) is a holiday long weekend of ceol agus craic (music & laughter) attracting musicians and those who love Irish music, from all around New Zealand and overseas.
This year's headline festival guests are Brid Harper and Dermot Byrne, brought to Nelson by Ceol Aneas and Culture Ireland. Maggie Carty, Beth McCracken, Jody Moran, Rob Zielinski, Kate Burke and Mairtin Staunton complete the lineup.
The Festival Concert 7pm Sunday at Nelson Centre for Musical Arts (formerly NSOM) features our world class guests with mighty music and merriment.
The family friendly Ceili Dance with called dances and live musicians 6pm Saturday at NCMA, is fun for all ages.
A singing session, focusing on Irish song is on at Yaza Cafe Saturday from 3.30 - 5.30 pm. Free and all welcome.
The sound of traditional Irish music will be heard from 8 pm till late at The Free House, The Wakatu Hotel and East Street. The sessions provide a lively atmosphere continuing on into the small hours. Free to enter.
Ceol Aneas is Irish Gaelic for Music of the South.
