The Umemura Collection comes from Awajishima Island in Japan, where Mr. Toshio Umemura used to have an art shop and gallery. Due to his advanced age he closed the shop and sold the Japanese scrolls from home until his death at age 99 in 2017. He acquired the scrolls from other art businesses and made a wide selection from traditional scrolls such as landscapes, cranes and Noh play, more individual pieces with birds, flowers and fish, to scrolls he sold to temples. There are no two scrolls the same in the collection.
