Olive Copperbottom (Aotearoa New Zealand)

Tuesday 16th-Wednesday 17th October 2018

A Dickensian tale of love, gin and the pox!
Written & performed by Penny Ashton.

Following the sold-out success of Promise and Promiscuity, Penny Ashton swaps Austen for Dickens and brings orphaned hero Olive, and a squalid gaggle of hilarious Victorians, to crusty life.

Olive Copperbottom is a rollicking romantic musical journey through fifteen gin soaked characters told with song, dance and questionable personal hygiene. It’s Oliver! meets Blackadder with a saucy feminine twist. Featuring reworkings of classical masters such as Chopin, Verdi and Tchaikovsky by the ever talented Robbie Ellis, and a brand new corset to make your eyes water from Elizabeth Whiting.

“Ashton is a one-woman-show wonder.” CBC Canada, ★★★★

“It sparkles with intelligence, wit and verve.” The Christchurch Press 2018

“…a frothy margarita of theatrical fun, with a pronounced tequila kick.” Winnipeg Free Press, ★★★★
