Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Friday 21st September 2018
Eccentric-folk musician, Fraser Ross' first EPs, And Birds Do Sing (HAM, 2009) and To Places (HAM, 2012) established him as a serious talent and a brilliant, loud-shirted presence within the New Zealand underground music scene..
His sound is part Afro-beat, part electric-folk, and part comedy, and part pillow-talk.
He is about to release his second LP (& first with new band), ‘Life is Magic, Where is my Rabbit?’ which will be released in August, 2018 through Home Alone Music.
The Fairfield gig will feature Ross in a solo incarnation.
Fraser Ross is a builder, poet, comedian, and ‘NZ’s best-kept musical secret’ (Capital Times). He has a voice that was honed in Scotland’s rowdy pubs during his three-year tenure there, and a lyrical style that can be uplifting, and at times, quite moving.
He has shared the stage with some of NZ’s best including, Nadia Reid, The Nudge, and The Phoenix Foundation, and has had Bill Murray join him on stage for a two-hour sing-a-long.
‘His music, which has traditional folk roots, has a wonderful way of breaking free from genre’
‘Like a Kiwi Billy Connolly’
