Motueka Library: Harakeke Weaving With Storm Nathan

Monday 10th September 2018

Celebrate Maori Language Week with us at the library with a harakeke weaving session with Storm Nathan.

The Maori Language Week theme for 2018 is Kia Kaha - talking about language, health, strength and revitalisation. So when we say Kia Kaha Te Reo Maori, we're saying Let's Make The Maori Language Strong.

Join Storm for a weaving session making two basic putiputi flowers - a basic rose and a more intricate putiputi that tells that story of whakapapa.

Storm will also talk about traditional Maori weaving, and the proper harvesting and preparation of harakeke (flax).

While you're in the library, explore our collection of books on Maori taonga, harakeke weaving, and our Mana magazine.

Kai available from 3.15pm-3.30pm.

Free.
