Women's Suffrage in New Zealand

To celebrate Suffrage 125, The Friends of the Library are host Gail Collingwood as their Sunday speaker.

On the 19th September 1893, Lord Collingwood, Governor of New Zealand signed a new Electoral Act into law. Thus New Zealand women became the first citizens of a self-governing country to have the right to vote. Gail will be talking about this history and its significance for women and men today.

Followed by the Launch of the Women Decision-Makers Banners & Booklets honouring the 52 women who have been elected to
Local Government in Nelson and Tasman.
