A centenary commemoration and celebration of the signing of the Armistice ending the fighting in WWI and the re-dedication of the updated WWI face of the Anzac Park Cenotaph.
The Cenotaph re-dedication is being held in recognition of the new names that it has been discovered in research should have been included on the Cenotaph in the first place.
The Service will be held along the lines of previous years, assembling at the cenotaph at 10.50, commencing at 1100 with 2 minutes silence, followed by the re-dedication of the Cenotaph then the normal service format including speeches by Hon Dr. Nick Smith, MP, Cr Paul Matheson, Deputy Mayor, and Mr. Peter Milward who led the research into the names that have been added to the Cenotaph. There will also be a reading of all those killed during the war by students of the 4 Colleges in Nelson City.
Following the service, the Veterans, Service and Serving members led by the Nelson City Brass Band will form up and march from Haven Road via Bridge St/Trafalgar St to the Church Steps to join others to witness a re-enactment of the signing of the Armistice being performed by Histrionics living history drama group.
