Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Friday 9th-Sunday 11th November 2018
This year, to mark the centenary of signing the Armistice in November 1918, and to celebrate her Military Camp heritage, the Tapawera community will come alive for the weekend with period costumes, and vintage farm implements and vehicles, including a restored WW1 era horse - drawn Ambulance and a limber carrying a 9- pounder Armstrong gun.
The former Military Camp site will be recreated with a Scouts Nelson camp over the weekend, while on Sunday the 11th of November, after a traditional Armistice service organised by the Richmond / Waimea RSA, we welcome all to join the special parade to the Training Camp grounds where display tents arranged in military fashion will illustrate what the ‘return home’ meant – what life was like for the survivors who came back and for those who had been left behind.
The weekend offers a variety of activities to enjoy, ranging from an interactive Theatre of Peace, historic films, heritage-themed bus trips, a craft fair and music. Visitors are welcome to come and stay from Friday 9th November for the weekend, site bookings can be made on our website: www.tapawera.nz where you will also find our Programme.
