Local Government--Awareness & Petition

Thursday 28th February 2019

Staff from Tasman District Council will answer questions about local government in general and the upcoming elections (for mayor and councillors) later this year.

It's also an opportunity to ask questions about -- and sign -- the petition for a poll on the voting system. The poll will allow Tasman voters to choose between First Past the Post (FPP, as at present) or STV (Single Transferable Vote), a proportional representation scheme. The petition and choices are options under the regular 6-yearly review required by the Local Electoral Act, carried out in 2017.

The initiator of the petition (Liz Thomas of Golden Bay) will be there, with a checklist of people who have already signed.
