Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Sunday 2nd June 2019
The concert is the highlight of the Ceol Aneas Irish Music Festival. Headlined by Eileen O'Brien, Mary McNamara and Angela Usher direct from Ireland and Manchester, this is a rare chance to experience Irish traditional music at its very best.
Eileen is the daughter of the great Tipperary button accordionist and composer Paddy O’Brien and is hailed as one of the leading exponents of Irish traditional fiddle playing.
A unique musical heritage has made Mary McNamara a highly respected performer on the concertina and also one of the most sought after teachers of Irish music today.
Angela Usher is described as a uniquely soulful banjo player, where technical mastery meets impeccable musical taste.
Joining them onstage are Declan Simpson (fiddle) and Dougal Adams (flute) from Australia, both masters of their instruments. Our own local homegrown talent Patrick Higgins (whistle) and Caleb Chia (guitar) complete the lineup.
This concert guarantees an evening of spellbinding music that traditional music fans cannot afford to miss. Expect lively Irish music and “craic” with toe tapping tunes.
