Cawthron Memorial Lecture 2019

Tuesday 17th September 2019

This year the Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Professor Gideon Henderson, from the Earth Sciences Department of Oxford University and Fellow of the Royal Society. His work centres around climate studies and the carbon cycle. Professor Henderson has recently been appointed Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government’s Department of the Environment, so we are very lucky to have him.

The introduction presentation will be given by Dr Susie Wood. She is a senior Cawthron Scientist studying algal blooms and cyanobacteria and is considered one of the world experts in her field.

Professor Henderson will talk about research into the mitigation of climate change by removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. To view the full abstract of his lecture; “Taking it back : Removing CO2 from the Atmosphere to limit climate change” visit Eventbrite

Over the years many distinguished scientists and scholars have shared their knowledge on a wide range of subjects since the event began, back in 1917. Past speakers include Sir Edmund Hilary, Sir Ernest Rutherford, Professor Lord Robert Winston and Rt. Hon. Helen Clark. Click here for information on past lectures.
