Refugee Support Volunteers – November Training

Saturday 16th-Thursday 21st November 2019

As a Red Cross Refugee Support Volunteer, you will be a key participant in the successful resettlement of former refugees. This is a terrific opportunity for you to work in a team, have fun, learn about diverse cultures and gain the satisfaction of doing something worthwhile!

Red Cross is the lead agency in the resettlement of refugees in New Zealand. This volunteering opportunity is based in Nelson. Refugee support volunteers complete a comprehensive training course and are placed in teams to work with newly arrived refugee families or individuals for their first 3-6 months in New Zealand.

Training is provided, the next course begins on the 16th of November with more dates in early 2020.

Volunteers are supported by staff throughout their placement and assist with tasks which include: Setting up homes; linking with Work & Income, schools, ESOL providers, and local GPs; orientating to the local community; providing on-going support (hospital appointments, mail, Work & Income appointments, social visits); and alerting our professional staff to needs or issues.
