Raking through the Ashes

Monday 30th March-Thursday 30th April 2020

In her first solo exhibition, Wellington-based photographer Sam Gorham presents a year-long culmination of research, site photography, and collection of tobacco ephemera, held within large scale photographic collages. Raking through the Ashes is a photographic investigation examining the contested past, present and future of tobacco production in Aotearoa, New Zealand. The historical journey into tobacco production led her to Motueka, where defunct kilns, archival hubs and local knowledge enriched the materials that contribute to Gorham's project.

You are warmly invited to the exhibition opening complimentary refreshments provided.
