An invitation to all to share and participate in a Dawn Peace Blessing over the City lead by Archdeacon Emeritus Harvey Ruru QSM.
Karanga, karakia, mihi, whakatauki, te mea, poi waiata.
On 5th November 1881, the peaceful settlement of Parihaka was invaded by Government troops. They peacefully resisted and although their leaders Tohu Kakahi and Te Whiti-o-Rongomai were arrested, no lives were lost. The Parihaka people continue to uphold the values of peace, non violence, autonomy, sanctuary, respect and equality, innovation and hard work, self sufficiency, resilience, unity and commitment to the future.
We carry this legacy of peace, gifted from the leaders and people of Parihaka, forward in our time, to bring peace into our lives, families, community and nation.
This is an opportunity to honour the leaders and people of Parihaka, give thanks for their vision and legacy of peace, and offer our own prayers and commitment to a peaceful future.
