CANCELLED Flightless Birds of New Zealand as part of the Live Music Series at Elma Turner Library

Sunday 31st May 2020

Three part vocal harmonies, reminiscent of The Andrews Sisters and The Supremes. Leanings towards jazz, girl bands of the 60s and 70s, with some satirical songs thrown in for good measure.
The Flightless Birds of New Zealand are an Andrews Sisters/Supremes style close part harmony group, made up of three female vocalists.
When considering a group name, we decided that we were not your average bird, and thought of New Zealand’s uniqueness and our range of flightless birds
Just like a good Marvel character, each has a day time job however they turn into musicians/actors by night by acting with Nelson Musical Theatre and Nelson Repertory.

Amanda Crehan (Weka) –A Lawyer by day, she identifies with one of Aotearoa’s most inquisitive flightless birds and managed to get all the way to these shores from Britain.
Deanne Kilpatrick (Kiwi) – Counsellor by day - The great spotted kiwi is largest of all the kiwis and has a loud distinctive call sound. It’s found in the forests around Nelson.
Jane Bayley (Takahē)– a Resource Management Consultant by day. Thought to be extinct until discovered in Southland in 1948, Takahē have been released into Gouland Downs providing trampers with glimpses of this colourful bird.
