Stitch Stories with a Finnish Twist Workshop

Sunday 20th September 2020

Käspaikka Stories in Red - Stitch Techniques Traditional and Contemporary Embroidery - tutored by Maria Julkunen
In this one day workshop we take a look at traditional Karelian embroidery and how it was used in clothing and home textiles. We'll make traditional back stitch patterns with red thread on white linen, try organically flowing chain stitch embroidery and look at pulled thread work. We'll also have a go at designing contemporary work so you can explore techniques and ideas to create patterns for your projects by telling your own story in stitch.

Workshop for beginners and for those already with embroidery experience.

Explore traditional red running stitch embroidery, develop our own designs and learn techniques for beautiful edges and other ways to work with drawn threads.

Join Maria as she shares her own textile journey and introduces you to the traditions and stories of Finnish embroidery
