Ralph Bradley is chairperson of the Top of the South Dark Sky committee which has worked for many years on the Dark Sky project.
Inspired by a desire to have a Dark Sky area set up in the region, the committee, with support from the Nelson Science Society Astronomy Division, Tasman District Council, Forest & Bird and Network Tasman, among others, has successfully gained accreditation from the International Dark Sky Association. Now the 135 hectare reserve and forestry area, five kilometres out of Wakefield, has ongoing protection.
