The 2020 Tokyo Olympics might not be taking place due to Covid-19, but that doesn’t mean we can’t travel to Japan in other ways – such as learning about the Japanese style of poem known as haiku.
“The Old Pond” by Matsuo Bashō
An old silent pond
A frog jumps into the pond—
Splash! Silence again.
Follow Matsuo Bashō’s example and write a haiku, then enter it in to our first ever Haiku Competition, and go in the draw to win a prize!
Haiku follow the structure 5/7/5: five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five again in the third, and often vividly describe an aspect of nature, or a brief moment in time.
Taking place at Motueka, Murchison, Takaka and Richmond libraries.
