Rugby: 150 Years On

Thursday 17th September-Sunday 4th October 2020

Presented in association with Nelson College Old Boys’ Association, Nelson College and Nelson Rugby Football Club

A lot has changed over the past 150 years since Nelson Rugby Football Club took the field against Nelson College on 14 May 1870.

Rugby 150 Years On – an exhibition originally launched online as a result of New Zealand’s nationwide lockdown, but now also on display at the Nelson Provincial Museum - celebrates 150 years since New Zealand’s first rugby game was played in Nelson on 14 May 1870.

The presentation discusses how the game’s rules have changed; how it is played now and how the game embraces inclusiveness and different formats for players with different needs.
