Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand

Slice of Life

Friday 13th November 2020-Sunday 25th April 2021

Remember when Knight Rider was the highlight of your week and Star Wars was the highlight of your year? When TV screens were tiny and mobile phones were huge? Remember 70s disco, 80s make-up, 90s grunge and the millennium countdown?

Nelson Provincial Museum’s latest exhibition, Slice of Life, offers a nostalgic view on New Zealand over four decades, from the 1970s to the 2000s, as a window into the lives of the 1,000+ most studied people in the world.

Developed by the University of Otago Te Whare Wānanga o Otāgo and Toitū Otago Settlers Museum, the exhibition highlights the significance of the world renowned ‘Dunedin Study’. Featuring a carefully chosen collection of era-specific objects – toys, posters, furnishings, technology – and hands on interactives, visitors are invited to connect with the Study findings in a deeply personal way.

Slice of Life is a vivid demonstration of how New Zealand has changed, and a reminder of how much our people have changed in turn.
