Grand Opening Concert
Welcome to the Adam Summer Celebration! Opening with New Zealander Claire Cowan’s charming Latin-inspired work, moving to Spain for Ravel’s colourful Don Quichotte songs and further east for Smetana’s heartfelt 2nd quartet, we then detour to America for some Gershwin favourites. Finally we enter the world of Viennese ultra-Romanticism with prodigy Erich Korngold’s deliciously melodious and richly-textured sextet, where you can hear the foreshadowings of his later illustrious career as a Hollywood composer. An extraordinary accomplishment for a 17-year-old and a wonderfully colourful conclusion to our Grand Opening!
