Come along and learn an old traditional Cotswold dance called 'Rose Tree' from the village of Bampton just outside Oxford in England and a contemporary dance 'Hunters Moon' written by a Border Morris dance group.
We're on the look out for new members of Ragged Crow so if you are reasonably fit, have a a sense of rhythm and a sense of humour then there may be an opportunity to join Ragged Crow Morris Dancers. Morris dancing is a great way to have fun, keep fit, and participate in the apre-practise social activities.
We dance at some of the local festivals eg Marchfest, and fairs (Ngatimoti) and travel to dance at Picton and Hanmer. Ragged Crow is also organising a National Morris event in Tasman and Nelson next January where we hope to host 80+ dancers who will dance at different locations around the region.
The Morris dance is one of the oldest continuing traditions of rural England, the earliest written record of it is in 1448 in a court (Henry VII) accounts ledger.
