Flight - Exploring Coastal Migrations and Local Histories Through Lantern Making

Sunday 12th June 2022

(One of the 70+ events being held during Tuku 22 Whakatu Heritage Months.)

Participants are invited to come and use provided materials to create a lantern or shadow puppet for play with light and shadow at the end of the day. Participants will be given information about local coastal bird species, provided with resource material to use and asked to create something that speaks to the species that arrive and depart from our coastal and estuary areas each year. The lanterns can include those species and incorporate some migration stories. Members of the Light Nelson artists collective will be on hand to help with construction and will oversee the light & shadow play for parading the lanterns. Community Artworks has capacity for a maximum of 15 inside making lanterns at a time – Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Runs at Green, Orange or Red. My Vaccine Passes not required. Masks to be worn.
