Set Dancing Workshop: Ceol Aneas Irish Music Festival 2022

Saturday 4th June 2022

Irish music and dance evolved hand-in-hand, and we are excited to bring set dancing into our Ceol Aneas programme for the first time.

From the tutor, Helen Stonehouse:

I will be teaching the Fermanagh Set from the South West corner of Northern Ireland. I learnt much of my dancing from dancing teachers from Ireland, and particularly from Pat Murphy a Set Dance Master who has been learning and teaching the dances for most of his life.

The set is danced in square sets of 8 people, with 4 figures. We will start from the very beginning learning the steps and the figures slowly.

Dancing the Sets brings the Irish music even more alive, and I would love for enough people to be able to dance the basics and know a few figures so we can start to bring some dancing into the pubs alongside the music.

Live music will be kindly provided for us by Roger Stonehouse, Emily Griffiths and Thomas Stonehouse.
