Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Thursday 30th June 2022
(One of the 70+ events being held during Tuku 22 Whakatū Heritage Months.)
Following her talk at the Suter Gallery*, Te Papa senior curator, fashion historian and author Claire Regnault offers closer exploration of clothing associated with rites of passage - marriage, childbirth and mourning - at Broadgreen House.
While many museum collections are bursting at the seams with wedding dresses, clothing associated with maternity and mourning are much rarer. For her book 'Dressed: Fashionable dress in Aotearoa New Zealand 1840 to 1910', Broadgreen House came to her rescue with two stunning maternity gowns from either end of the 19th century.
(* Refer to separate listing called 'Unpicking Dressed').
Runs and Green or Orange. Facemasks are required to be worn.
