Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Saturday 16th July-Saturday 24th September 2022
We’re working on an amazing community quilt together.
Whether you’re a new migrant or tangata whenua, lived in Te Tauihu / The Top of The South for 500 years or closer to 5, we want to celebrate your origins or whakapapa with our community quilt.
You can be any age, of any sewing ability to take part. All you need to do is make some marks relating to your origins or whakapapa on a piece of fabric – that we provide!
In fact it’s not even necessary to stitch on your piece of fabric. Painting, knitting, crochet, applique or other mark-making is totally fine. The most important thing is that you tell us a little bit about your origin or whakapapa.
Simply pick up your entry form and fabric from the library, add your story – or part of your story - to the fabric, and then return it to us by 30 September. We’ll then transform all our amazing community stories into a giant community quilt.
To make things even easier and more enjoyable, we’re running these Stitch Together sessions every second Saturday during July, August and September. Bring your quilt piece along and work on it together with others. Bring a friend or family member, or come along and meet new people with a shared interest.
