Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Sunday 9th October 2022
Design and Weave Neck Cowl. A small, lightweight neck warmer is a great beginners project and a lovely, colourful spring-time accessory.
Following a hands-on demonstration, you can select your yarns and start to set up a rigid heddle loom using the direct warping method. There will be a wide variety of colours, fibres and textures to choose from (including some New Zealand luxury yarns) as well as lots of help, tea, coffee, chocolate and friendly chatter.
After setting up your loom, you will be taught a few different techniques to weave a
semi-plain, striped, textured or colour block fabric using a relaxed and intuitive method of weaving.
You will also be shown some hand stitching and finishing techniques to turn your fabric into a mobius cowl.
No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness and an openness to learn and play.
Weaving materials cost is $20 per person, payable to the tutor.
Once enrolled, please feel free to let the tutor know what your favourite colours are, or just turn up on the day and see what inspires you.
Hot drinks and snacks are available throughout the day. Just bring your lunch, water bottle and a pen.
