Washcloths & Dishcloths - one day Rigid Heddle Loom weaving workshop - Tutor Karuna Peralta
Weaving is a fun, creative, relaxing and rewarding activity. For this session, there will be a selection of rigid heddle looms for you to use. These will be ‘dressed’ and ready to go with the vertical warp threads all set up for you to commence weaving.
Following a quick hands-on demonstration, you can start to weave your very own fabric. Depending on the techniques & materials used, this can be turned into either durable handy dishcloths for washing up, or soft face cloths. They also make great gifts.
During the workshop, you can explore the plain weave structure and simple ‘pick up’ techniques. There will be a variety of colours to choose from – in cotton, linen and bamboo fibres. The group will also be shown how the rigid heddle loom is set up using the direct warping method and how the woven fabrics can be hemmed and finished.
Students will take home a couple of washcloths each.
There is a small materials charge of $20 paid directly to Karuna at the end of the workshop (internet payment or cash please).
No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness and openness to play with colour and fibre.
I look forward to seeing you there, Karuna
