Harakeke - Weave your own Whakairo Kete Workshop

Saturday 1st-Monday 3rd June 2024

From plant to product: the flax is prepared with the flax fibre exposed at the end, this is referred to as muka.

The next development after weaving your Kete Whiri is a Kete Whakairo. You can view our other listing on the Kete Whiri workshop and this workshop will be the next step on your journey (although you can attend without attending the Kete Whiri workshop).

During this workshop you will learn how to create a pattern using colour, placement and different weaves. You will start with the leaf of Harakeke and finish with a Kete Whakairo. Dyeing of the flax fibres is included.

This 3 day workshop is located in the scenic Inangahua. Accommodation option available.

Some Harakeke Weaving experience is preferred, if you would like to know more please email.
