The Nelson Institute presents a talk by Dr James Butler Transformation pathways for Pacific Islands and their food

Sunday 9th June 2024

Many Pacific islands are under increasing risk of climate change, including inundation from sea level rise. They are also highly exposed to natural disasters, and due to the tyranny of distance, dependent on lengthy transport routes for the import and export of food and other commodities.

What can be done to help?

So, what does the future for Pacific Island countries look like? What do they want? How do we help them make better decisions about their futures, and how to adapt and transform? In this talk I will describe work that Cawthron and its partners are conducting in the Pacific region to envisage futures for island communities, and help them reach their goals.

I am a sustainability scientist with a multi-disciplinary background in development studies, agricultural economics, veterinary science, terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecology gained over 30 years in Africa, Europe, Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
