Setting up a Rigid Heddle Loom Workshop – Washcloths and Dishcloths - Tutor Karuna Peralta

Sunday 17th March 2024

During this one-day workshop you will learn to design and set up a rigid heddle loom for weaving washcloths and dishcloths - using your favourite colours and a variety of lovely soft cotton.

Following a hands-on demonstration, you can select your colours and start to set up a rigid heddle loom using the direct warping method. There will be a variety of colours, fibres and textures to choose from – plus lots of help on hand.

After setting up your loom, you will be taught a few different techniques to weave a semi-plain, striped, texture or colour block fabric using a relaxed and intuitive method of weaving.

You will also be shown how to finish your projects including, hemstitching and turnover hems.

If you live close by, and are still weaving at the end of the day, you may wish to borrow the loom to finish your project at home and return it to the tutor (in central Nelson) the following week.

Materials cost is $10-20 per person (depending on how much you weave), payable to the tutor.

Class size max 8 people. No previous experience necessary, just a willingness and openness to learn and play.
