Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Saturday 18th-Sunday 19th May 2024
NZ Flax - Harakeke is the most enduring of all New Zealand native plants, a natural resource and easily accessible.
From plant to product, in this workshop you will learn the skills of weaving with NZ Flax - Harakeke including plaiting to create strong and sturdy handles for baskets.
You will leave with a completed, fully functioning shopping bag that will give you great satisfaction having created an object of natural beauty with sustainability in mind.
It is preferable to have completed the 'Introduction to Harakeke Weaving' as this workshop covers the tikanga and toi raranga, the cultural customs, and sustainable practices of this time-honored craft. Only some aspects will be covered again during this workshop, and to refresh those who have attended previous workshops. See other listings for the intro workshop offering.
