Weave your own Pikau a traditional woven back pack at this NEW Harakeke - NZ Flax Basket Making workshop by well known weaver and tutor Yvonne Hammond.

As the techniques to weave a pikau are more challenging, it is preferable to have had some prior Harakeke Weaving experience.

Weave a top down or bottom up backpack. We will dye the harakeke and weave a basic pattern to honour the weavers that are traveller and foragers. Also great gifts to be 'seen around town.' Bring a button or shell as a closure for your own unique Pikau.

This two day workshop is a progression from the Introduction to NZ Flax Weaving workshops or you may have previously acquired some flax weaving skills, making this workshop a good opportunity to refresh your knowledge.
