Despite centuries of study, we still don't understand what controls the amazing diversity of plants, animals and microbes that live on Earth or whether there is a fixed limit to the number of species. In this presentation Dr James Crampton of Victoria University will examine these questions using information from fossils and notably, some important fossils that are found in the Golden Bay area.
