Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Monday 28th October 2024
Join RNZ’s Critter of the Week researcher, illustrator, and author Lily Duval for a twilight romp through Brook Waimārama Sanctuary to learn more about our insect world – particularly the vital role ‘six-legged ghosts’ play – and how you can care for these creatures and their habitats.
Did you know we are the midst of an insect apocalypse? Lily Duval loves talking bugs and she has dedicated years to writing and illustrating her new book, Six-legged Ghosts: Insects of Aotearoa, after realising the vital role invertebrates play when it comes to averting a biodiversity crisis.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn more about the role invertebrates play in supporting life on earth, including our local forests and bird populations.
Rug up, wear sensible footwear, bring wet weather gear and join us for a fascinating guided tour: first stop, the Weta Hotel, where you will learn which of the possible eight species reside in Whakatū Nelson’s extraordinary ‘ecological island’.
