Visible Mending with a Speedweve Darning Loom - Tutor: Renee Clothier

Saturday 19th October 2024

Speedweve mending (also known as Speedweve darning) is a process of mending textiles visibly.

This process can be used for weaving, mending and stitching on a variety of textiles from woollen jumpers to jeans. The hole is mended, and the mending/darning can be seen.

Once you have been taught this fun process you can use it to repair linen or clothing. It means you can up-cycle instead of throw away – becoming sustainable and part of the slow fashion movement. You may become hooked!

In this one-day workshop you will learn all the tips and tricks of speedweve mending which you will be able to use in everyday life. Over time you can progress to mending with shapes such as diamonds, checker patterns and hearts.

You will bring your own garments to be repaired and return home with them mended in a fashionable manner. Small looms, needles and wool/yarn will be available at the workshop and the tutor will be able to direct you where to source your own equipment for your work at home.

This is a great workshop for beginners or refreshers.

The workshop location is best reached via car/taxi, or using Nelson's eBus network.
