Nelson Fringe Festival: Zine Making Workshop

Saturday 16th-Saturday 23rd March 2024

A zine making workshop for Rebels and Geurrilla writers, creative types, or people who just have something to say and want the world to know about it.

Made famous by Riot Grrrl and other punk publications, zines are a way to unleash your words into the world in all their raw, authentic, #realnotperfect glory.

Guided by poet Rowan Taigel, you'll produce your very own bespoke, one-of-a-kind zine, ready for copying and sharing with NZ and the world!

Zines (or fanzines) are hand crafted mini magazines, often about niche subjects, or topics that are important to writers. Zines are a ‘low-tech’/’guerrilla’ form of publishing, often in small batches, using a photocopier to run of a limited number of copies. The aim of this workshop is to teach participants how to make found poetry, or write creatively about their chosen topic, then produce a handmade treasure, that can be copied and shared with the community.

Rowan Taigel is a Nelson-based poet. She enjoys writing in cafes on the weekend, accompanied by one, or more, double-shot flat whites. She's also at Nayland College, teaching creative writing and zine publication.
