Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Saturday 1st June 2024
A Ceili (traditional Irish dance) is from the Irish (and Scots) Gaelic word for a gathering or a dance.
As part of the Ceol Aneas Irish Festival weekend, a Ceili Dance will be held on Saturday evening. Live traditional Irish music is provided by a variety of musicians and creates a lively atmosphere.
While it is helpful to have some experience in ceili dancing, you don’t need to know what to do before you get there. The dances are called, which means they will be taught on the night so you will be able to learn as you go and is part of the fun. This is dancing at its best - a fun-filled community activity and great exercise too.
The band and caller are provided by the ever popular Victoria Folk Club from Wellington, who are a fun and experienced team at leading ceilis.
Come on your own (you don't need a partner to join in) or bring your friends, family and children for a rousing good time.
Tickets at the door on the night. Everyone is welcome.
