Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Tuesday 23rd April 2024
This illustrated talk will bring together material from Gregory O'Brien's recent monograph on Don Binney alongside much material from beyond the book. O'Brien will discuss his long involvement with, and study of, Binney's paintings and drawings, as well as offering insights into the life of this mercurial, talented yet often contradictory figure. O'Brien's book,
Don Binney -- Flight Path, is an impassioned argument on behalf of Binney's art, asserting its importance and relevance in present-day Aotearoa New Zealand. He will tell us how and why he reached this conclusion--while also offering a many-faceted portrait of a dynamic and colourful presence at the epicentre of the nation's recent art history.
