Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Friday 24th May 2024
Ananda Purnima is the full moon in the Indian month of Vaishakh. It is an auspicious day, as well as being the birthday of the Buddha, it is also the day we celebrate the birth and contributions of a less widely known spiritual teacher, social revolutionary and composer from India called Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar. He composed over 5000 songs, collectively called Prabhát Saḿgiita, meaning "Songs of the New Dawn". and also introduced the sanskrit mantra "Baba Nam Kevalam" which can be translated as "infinite love is all there is". This mantra can be used in a singing meditation practice called kiirtan.
The programme will start with singing Prabhát Saḿgiita followed by kiirtan, meditation and a talk by Dada Ravi who is a monk in the Ananda Marga yoga tradition. We will finish with a shared vegetarian meal.
All are welcome to attend, no matter how much or little experience you have had with singing, kiirtan or meditation. Tamariki are also welcome.
