SLIP | Rebecca Jensen with Aviva Endean

Wednesday 23rd-Thursday 24th October 2024

A medieval figure eyeballs the audience, snacking on Doritos to the soundtrack of crunched celery. Live Foley art, cinematic sound and dance meet (un)reality in Naarm-based dancer/choreographer Rebecca Jensen and sound artist Aviva Endean’s ode to the complexity of our current world.

Slip is an intricate duet between sound artist Aviva Endean and dancer/choreographer Rebecca Jensen (a Kiwi now based in Naarm Melbourne). Together they untether sound, image, and time in a layered dance work that invites the audience to consider the entanglement of all things, and the threat of falling out of synch with our histories, the natural environment our bodies, and each other.

Slip uses the illusion of foley to address the complexity of our present reality. The spaces between action and consequence, sourcing and product, private and public, truth and marketing, digital and IRL are slippery. Through delay, dissonance, and slippage, we unwittingly de-synch. Pairings are pulled apart and abstracted, connections simplified, severed, and rewired to the point of absurdity.
